That’s right! Decorating should be a FUN and enjoyable experience! Changing your rooms – changing your color scheme – changing your furniture plan – can all add so much excitement and newness to your personal enviornments.
So, making redecorating a fun and enjoyable experience truly starts with pre-planning! Color schemes don’t magically appear out of thin air. A new furniture placement plan doesn’t just happen with the snap of a finger!
Here are 3 tips you might want to employ to ensure that your next decorating project is a fun, pleasant and pleasing experience – not just for you – but for your decorator as well!
#1. Do your homework. Ask yourself what colors tend to be the most impactful in your life. What type of furniture do you find the most beautiful. Do you like dark woods, or light woods? Do you enjoy sofas that cushy and comfy, or is a firmer “seat” more your style? How do you feel about print fabrics? Textured Fabrics? Solid Fabrics? What style window treatment appeals to you? Side panels? Sheers? Wood Blinds? Shutters? Swags and Jabots? Roman Shades?
There are literally thousands and thousands of design options out there for you to chose from! Once you’ve done your homework and taken a personal inventory of what you like and don’t like, you’ll be well on your way to having the time of your life redecorating!
2. Start an Idea Notebook. Peruse design magazines, and cut out pictures of rooms, colors, design styles that fit the way you live. Having an Idea Notebook will not only help you narrow your ulitmate choices, but it will help your decorator immensely! And be sure to ask your decorator to share her design portfolio with you! It will be filled with great design ideas to spark your personal creativity!
3. Think about your budget – seriously – think about your budget! There’s nothing more disappointing than falling in love with a beautiful piece of furniture or a gorgeous window treatment – only to realize it’s totally out of your financial comfort zone! And remember, a professional decorator can give you price estimates on a variety of design options – all you need to do is ask!
And last but not least, don’t be afraid to take a few chances with your new decorating project. Perhaps a fun, splash of color will add just the right spark of FUN to your new room. A beautifully crafted area rug, might be just the ticket to give your dining room a fresh new face! Remember, redecorating SHOULD be a fun and enjoyable experience and with a little pre-planning on your part, you’ll be half the way there!
